Alumna Story

“Congratulations on being awarded a Bronze award in the Go Cornish project.

It's good to see our heritage and language being recognised and enjoyed.

I was one of a small handful of girls who learnt some Cornish and the etymology of Cornish placenames and surnames back in the 1970's. I  also did it via the Girl Guides local history badge.

We were considered strange, by some staff and pupils for learning 'a dead language'; we did point out that Latin is also a 'dead language ', but is still taught.

Cornish is not considered dead nowadays. I am part of the Kemysk Warbarth choir, and I am happy to say, we won 1st prize for a song sung in Cornish at Camborne Music Festival on 16th November. So, perhaps Go Cornish can extend itself at THS, to Music?”
