At Truro High, our Aspiring Medics programme provides unparalleled support and guidance for students aiming for careers in medicine and healthcare. One-on-one mentoring, weekly workshops with professionals and networking ensures our girls are prepared to study these highly competitive courses. Last year, 25% of our Year 13 cohort achieved places at university to read courses including Medicine, Dentistry and Physiotherapy.
Most recently, we welcomed local Dentist and THS alumna, Jessica Kent-Hazeldine to our programme, and our aspiring medics interested in dentistry and medicine got hands-on in a suturing session. After qualifying in Dental Surgery from King's College London with honours, Jessica now supervises undergraduate students at Peninsula Dental School, where she is a master's degree student in Restorative Dentistry.
Our girls tried their hand at suturing bananas under Jessica’s expert guidance. The session provided an invaluable introduction to the precision required in dentistry and medicine, offering a real-world insight as they had the opportunity to use the same tools that Jessica uses everyday.
