We were recently delighted to welcome the team from Ethica Diamonds, a Cornwall-born ethical jewellery brand, for a truly special creative session with our Year 11s. Known for their conflict-free, environmentally conscious lab-grown diamonds, Ethica recently collaborated with Dame Joanna Lumley to design a show-stopping piece, the 'It's in our Hands' pendant, that raised £10,000 for the Born Free Foundation. Ethica also unveiled the world’s first C-® Carbon Negative Diamond, grown using solar energy and converting more carbon into diamond than was emitted in its creation.

The team at Ethica, including THS Alumna and Ethica Lead Designer, Laura Basham, brought a unique opportunity for the girls to design their very own THS leavers’ pendant. The students explored different metals, stones and cuts, learning about the principles of ethical jewellery before sketching their concepts and their inspiration behind their creations.

The team collected the student entries, and will return to school with their top 5, where Year 11 will vote to choose the winning design. The chosen pendant will be brought to life by Ethica, with the winner receiving their bespoke piece as a prize! THS alumna, Laura, shared how impressed she was by the Year 11s creativity, behaviour, enthusiasm, and articulate communication, calling them “an absolute credit to the school”.

Thank you to the team from Ethica for giving our Year 11s this fantastic opportunity. We are excited to continue working with Ethica Diamonds, inspiring our girls to question industry norms and push for change in the world!
