Year 9 Ellie is used to letting her feet do the talking on the stage in our dance show but her great communication skills have other uses too and this summer her language studies earned her a top grade in GCSE Japanese.

Largely self-taught, Ellie honed her skills with a tutor, resulting in a fantastic result.

Her proud father Tom said: “We are immensely proud she has got her first GCSE in Year 9 and very pleased she has done so with a Grade 8. Ellie has had to put a lot of extremely hard work in, particularly to get up to speed with her reading and writing.”

At Truro High students study French, Spanish, Latin and Greek and Tom hopes more girls will take on the challenge of a new language. He said: “Learning a new language is like opening a window into another world and Ellie’s result shows that anything can be achieved if you put your mind to it.”
