Our creative arts students enjoyed a hands-on workshop this week with Cornish sustainable textile artist, Jane Gray, designed to further the girls thinking about our daily environmental impact.
This week Jane has taken over our gallery space as part of our EXHIBIT programme, exhibiting her work inspired by the circular economy, producing sustainable biophilic designs to raise awareness of the natural world around us. Jane showed the girls how to make tussie mussies, a small bouquet of flowers originating from the Victorian era, from used tea bags and dried plant matter Jane collected from her garden – proving that you can make something beautiful out of waste!
At the end, each of the girls wrote their pledge for the environment on a tea bag which Jane will incorporate into her newest art piece the ‘Engagement’ dress, made from upcycled recourses from Tregothan Tea. The teabag pledges will be part of the accompanying cape, a collaborative piece with the aim to reconnect people with our planet.
We are very lucky to have such a wonderful gallery space and be able to share it with a delightful array of inspirational artists. Youo are all more than welcome to visit any of exhibitions. Watch this space for a full list coming soon.
