Speech Day 2024

What a wonderful year it has been at Truro High, to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our girls we came together as a community at our annual Speech Day in Truro Cathedral.

During the Headmistress’ Report, Mrs Matthews commented on the phenomenal year that has seen Truro High awarded prestigious High Performance Learning World Class School status, and has seen our girls excelling everywhere, from the classrooms, to the sports fields, to the art studios, the stage, and beyond. She highlighted the dedication and hard work of our students and staff, praising their resilience and commitment to excellence in another fantastic year of learning, growing, and being 10% braver.

This year we were delighted to welcome Professor Rosemary Luckin, Professor of Learner Centred Design at University College London, and CEO and Founder of Educate Ventures Research Limited. As a recognised expert on the role of AI in education, she spoke about the incredible opportunities and developments offered by AI, but highlighted the importance of recognising that in this ever-changing modern world that human relationships, learning and creativity, will remain paramount.

We heard beautiful vocal solos by many Senior School students, including Year 13 May, Year 9 Ornela, Year 10 Scarlett and Year 10 Lucia, as well as piano by Year 10 Ellie. A heartfelt rendition of Cornwall My Home by Year 8 Dora, Year 8 Amelia and Year 10 Mirta (on violin), and a fantastic arrangement of People Get Ready/Mr Brightside by our combined Chamber Choirs closed the ceremony.

Speech Day was also a chance to bid our last goodbyes to our amazing Year 13s, who will soon be heading off to universities across the country. As our outgoing Head Girl, Esme, addressed the cathedral she reminisced on her 7-year journey at Truro High, and the inspirational, motivational and unforgettable place it is.

Congratulations to all of our girls, and all of the prize winners, for all of their remarkable achievements this year!
