Huge congratulations to alumna Alice Barry whose incredible puppet costume features in the opening shot of the Oscar-tipped blockbuster Cyrano.
The film, starring Peter Dinklage, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and Alice was a part of the creative team that brought the film to life. Alice, who left Truro High in 2018, studied Costume for Performance at London College of Fashion and now works as a freelance costume designer.
Her recent work includes leather commedia dell'arte masks and sheep head masks, puppets for “Animal Farm” for the Birmingham Reparatory Theatre, “Ocean at the End of the Lane” for the National Theatre, “Bagdad Café” at the Old Vic and the “Spirited Away” play in Tokyo. She also worked on costumes for the Netflix production “Sandman”.
Alice was introduced to Cyrano Director Joe Wright by his mother Lyndie with whom she was working at Little Angel Theatre. He was instantly impressed and Alice’s work has been captivating audiences worldwide in the opening shots of the film.
Well done Alice! You’re a star!
