It was wonderful to be back in the glorious surroundings of Truro Cathedral for our annual Speech Day celebrations and we were delighted to see lots of familiar faces in the crowd.

Guest of honour was Commander Amy Gaunt, Commanding Officer of 814 naval air squadron at RNAS Culdrose who spoke of the journey she took on her way to the top job in one of Europe’s most important naval helicopter squadrons. She encouraged the girls to believe in their dreams and to follow their passions and, above all, to surprise a few people along the way. In the words of Commander Gaunt, “Do something that makes you proud to be whoever you are, that perhaps surprises someone into saying “Well, that is not what I was expecting!”.

Headmistress Sarah Matthews delivered the annual school report and spoke of the way the school has grown steadily in recent years with many year groups returning this September to three-form entry. She spoke with immense pride of the way her students approach all opportunities ranging from competitive international sport to travelling half way around the world to support children in communities in need. Addressing the girls she said: “Thank you for all that you do at THS to enrich our community and to make it the unique and wonderful place that it is. This school is wonderful only because our students continue to embrace challenges, engage in opportunities and make the most of all we have to offer. I am tremendously proud to be leading such a phenomenal group of young people.”

Alumnae are always welcome to join us for such events and it was lovely to see so many of you there. Date for your diaries – join us back in the cathedral on Thursday 8 December for our annual Carol Service. To reserve seats for you and your guests, please email foundation@trurohigh.co.uk.
