Joy and relief were present in equal measure on A Level results day as our Year 13s celebrated an amazing set of results, with 69% of all passes at A*/A, which is almost double the national average.
Our students achieved straight A*/As in more than a third of subjects studied including Business, Art, Geography, French and Spanish. In 15 out of the 17 subjects studied this year, half or more of all A level passes were at grades A*/A.
An incredible 41% of students achieved straight A*/As in their exams and many girls chose to study an EPQ alongside their A levels with 100% passing at A*/A.
Headmistress Sarah Matthews said: “The girls at Truro High never fail to impress me and I could not be more proud of the strong, kind and dynamic young women who have collected their results today. They have come through so much during the pandemic and have done so with strength, determination and resilience and that is reflected in the excellent results they have achieved. I would like to thank all the teachers who went above and beyond to ensure the girls not only continued to thrive academically during the pandemic but were looked after pastorally as well.”
University destinations this year include Cardiff for Medicine, Nottingham for Veterinary Science, Bristol for Creative and Professional Writing, Exeter for Law, Durham for English, Newcastle for Psychology, UCL for Philosophy and Edinburgh for History.
Massive celebrations are also in order for our Year 11 girls who picked up a brilliant set of GCSE results. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the Sixth Form Centre at school as the girls opened their envelopes and realised that their hard work and determination through challenging times had been justly rewarded with excellent results. Personal stories of success include Celeste and Esme, who both achieved an amazing 10 Grade 9s today across their subjects. Esme said: “I’m absolutely delighted with these results, and so happy and relieved that all the hard work paid off.” The girls were part of this year’s county championship winning Under 16 hockey and netball teams, and they are looking forward to continuing their studies alongside their sport in the Sixth Form.
