Request for Oxbridge/Competitive Course interviewers

We like to ensure our girls are as prepared as they can be for University applications.

School News

As you will be aware, every year at Truro High we have girls successful in gaining entry to the most competitive courses and Universities. While this is something we are hugely proud of, it comes as a result of a lot of hard work and effort on behalf of those girls and their teachers, to get the right A Level grades/scores on entrance tests, as well as undertaking considerable super-curricular learning. We support girls who have these aspirations during years 11-13, through our competitive universities programme. This involves 1:1 mentoring with subject teachers to support learning beyond the curriculum, entrance test preparation and practice interviews. Bespoke support is also provided from Mrs. Sharp and myself with personal statements and course/University selection.

Competitive applications will often (although not always) include interviews. Due to the rigorous nature of these, we like to ensure our girls are as prepared as they can be, by offering girls interviews with external interviewers who have specialist knowledge of the subjects the girls are applying to. In a post-covid world our pool of interviewers has diminished, and we are now seeking to increase the number of external interviewers that we can call upon.

These interview practice sessions happen in the Michaelmas term, and most interviewers will only be asked to conduct 1-3 interviews per year. These can be arranged at mutually convenient times. If you can help support our girls in this increasingly competitive sphere, then I would love to hear from you. The girls will be extremely appreciative of your support (although slightly terrified, I am sure)!

If you are able to help in this way, I would love to hear from you: pmurray@trurohigh.co.uk
