Truro High School for Girls has been graded ‘Excellent’ in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, the sector’s equivalent of OFSTED. Excellent is the highest ranking that it is possible to achieve.
The report follows an in-depth inspection by five inspectors last month and is a glowing endorsement of the education provided to 400 girls aged 4 to 18 at the school in Falmouth Road, Truro.
The report concluded: “The school is highly successful in fulfilling its aim to provide an inspirational learning environment where all pupils are nurtured to thrive.”
Academic achievements were graded ‘Excellent’ with inspectors noting; “From the youngest age, pupils are eloquent and sophisticated communicators in a variety of media”. Pupils’ personal development is also ‘Excellent’ with the report stating: “Pupils have high levels of self-confidence and are well-prepared for the next stage of their lives.”
Headmistress Sarah Matthews welcomed the ISI report saying: “I am absolutely overjoyed that the ISI inspectors were able to see the incredible work that goes on within the walls of Truro High. As expected, our girls shone. The feedback was exceptional and noted the girls outstanding attitude towards learning and their strong sense of community.”
“The inspectors commented on the high levels of motivation, articulate communications and the excellent development of higher-order thinking skills that allow the girls to think with breadth and depth across all age groups. Also noted were the consistently high levels of self-confidence, self-awareness and strong moral development, along with the culture of mutual respect.”
“We are proud that the inspectors recognised how our expert teachers challenge our students to think for themselves and to work independently, feeding them with knowledge and inspiration. The report also noted our outstanding provision for enrichment activities, recognising the wide variety of opportunities available and the impressive levels of participation. We could not be more proud.”
The report rounds off a glittering few months for the school which is a finalist for three top education awards for its Early Years and STEM provision as well as being ranked as one of the top boarding schools in the world by US-based Fortune magazine.
