When Bex Brewer headed off to complete her Year 10 work experience with Rick Stein, little did she know that it was about to change her life forever. Her performance in the kitchen impressed the famous chef so much that he offered her a job which lead to her rising through the ranks at his restaurants across the UK.
But, it was in 2017, by then aged 19, that Bex decided to strike out on her own, taking over the Port and Starboard Fish and Chip Restaurant at Indian Queens. It already had a great reputation but with Bex at the helm its success has soared and it’s this week been named as one of the Top 10 fish and chip restaurants in the UK.
Bex, who was last year listed as one of Cornwall’s “Top 30 under 30” business owners, paid tribute to her staff saying without their hard work and dedication it would not have been possible. We think Bex played quite a big part too, not least by donating food and meals to those in need in her community during the pandemic. What an inspirational and compassionate young woman with a fabulous sprinkle of ambition thrown in too!
